Medical Travel Checklist

Medical Travel is not ordinary travel and Medical Tourists are NOT really tourists. To have a successful medical travel experience and return back home safe and sound, we strongly advise you to prepare yourself by carefully going through the following check list making sure that you are well prepared for the task ahead.

  1. Is Medical travel right for you?
  2. Can you travel alone or do you need somebody’s support while travel?
  3. Are there any travel regulations you need to consider for the condition you have?
  4. Have you done enough research about:
    • What are the latest advances in the field and if there are any, will you be eligible?
    • What is the recuperation time for the treatment you require?
    • What are the side effects?
    • Potential destinations where you can receive your treatment?
  5. Potential Hospitals/Clinics or centers which can provide you the right treatment?
  6. Have you chosen a destination? Is it the right destination for the price you can pay?
  7. Have you found the right Hospital/Clinic /Center for the treatment you need? Do they speak your first or second language? Can you explain your medical condition well enough without barriers?
  8. Have you checked if the chosen Hospital has the right medical qualifications in terms of facility and personnel?
  9. Do you know, at least approximately, how much you need for the treatment? How about other expenses you may incur along the trip such as travel, accommodation, food and other expenses?
  10. Are your flights and accommodations booked? Do you have an airport pick-up or know your way around your Hotel and Hospital?
  11. Have you made enough preparation before flying- Passport, Visa, Vaccinations, Immunizations, Currency, make appointments, travel insurance….?
  12. Do you know the after-care you need after your treatment abroad? What about when you return back home? Any precautions you must take? What follow-up arrangements do you need?
  13. Do you know what to do if something goes wrong? People to contact and support abroad when you need it?
